The days are getting shorter, and our days in the field are shorter and frostier. We’ve been putting a layer of compost and mulch on the empty beds that we’re already harvested, in order to protect the soil until spring. Friso has been bringing his scythe to cut fresh grass from between the fruit trees for us to mulch with. It’s very satisfying to put the beds to sleep like this. We’re expecting frost so we’re protecting the lettuce and some of the other more tender crops with fleece blankets. Very cosy. And afterwards we go warm up by the fire!
